Twenty-Five Years in Military Logistics, Sixteen in Federal Procurement
In 1983, at 18, I left Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, to join the Canadian Armed Forces. Over roughly 25 years I worked in military logistics, specializing in procurement, logistics and finance. After leaving in 2008, I continued serving Canadians as a federal public servant until my retirement in 2024, working in procurement across science and technology, military procurement and service contracting.
Those four decades taught me two things. Reliable sourcing means verifying the source, reviewing documentation and being accountable for what is delivered. And a supply chain is only as good as its ability to deliver: the right material means little if it can’t be moved reliably to where it is needed.
From Procurement to Research
My interest in emerging areas of scientific research, including the growing field of peptide research, developed through personal and family experiences that led me to start reading, asking questions and learning. As I learned more, I became equally interested in how research materials were being sourced, documented and supplied within Canada.
After decades in procurement, I approached research suppliers with the same questions I had always asked: Where is the material sourced? Has it been independently tested? Can the Certificate of Analysis be reviewed? Is the inventory actually located in Canada? How quickly and reliably will an order ship? And is there a real Canadian business standing behind the transaction?
I believed Canadian researchers should be able to find clear answers to those questions. I also believed Canadian inventory should be a genuine logistical advantage, so that orders don’t have to navigate international supply chains and customs before reaching their destination. So I decided to build the kind of Canadian research supplier I had been looking for.
